Troubleshooting Procedures

The vacuum level in the load lock chamber does not increase. If pressing the sample exchange window by hand causes the vacuum level to change, debris may be adhering to the O-ring on the sample exchange window. Remove any debris from the O-ring. Excessive desorption from the sample also prevents the vacuum level from increasing.

The vacuum gauge for the load lock is not displaying.
The amount of N2 inside the load lock chamber is low, making it difficult for the vacuum gauge to discharge.
Please perform the following steps.
1. Set the [AUTO/MANU] switch to MANU.
2. Set the [MV] switch to CLOSE.
3. Set the [VV] switch to OPEN, wait 5 seconds, then set it to CLOSE.
4. Set the [RV] switch to OPEN.
5. When the red LED on the back of the Pirani vacuum switch lights up, set the [RV] switch to CLOSE.
6. Press the [HV] switch on the Penning vacuum gauge controller.
7. Once the vacuum reading appears, set [MV] to OPEN.
8. Press the [AUTO RESET] switch, then set the [AUTO/MANU] switch to AUTO.

Proceed with the standard startup procedure thereafter.

The AUTO lamp does not illuminate.
Please perform the following steps.
1. Set the [AUTO/MANU] switch to MANU.
2. Set the [MV] switch to CLOSE.
3. Set the [RV] switch to OPEN.
4. When the red LED on the back of the Pirani vacuum switch lights up, set the [RV] switch to CLOSE.
5. Set the [RV] switch to CLOSE.
6. Once the vacuum reading appears, set [MV] to OPEN.
7. Press the [AUTO RESET] switch and set the [AUTO/MANU] switch to AUTO.

Proceed with normal operation thereafter.

The MV lamp does not light up.

A sample has fallen into the TDS main chamber
If the sample does not outgas (e.g., samples heated to high temperatures), please retrieve it during the next overhaul. It will not affect measurements.
If vacuum pumping becomes poor after the sample falls, or if abnormal signals appear during stage baking, remove the fallen sample immediately.

The vacuum level in the TDS main chamber is not increasing.
Perform degassing for about 30 seconds to clean the vacuum gauge.
If it does not recover, baking or cleaning of the chamber is necessary.

Powder sample scattered during purging.
Disassembly and cleaning of the load lock chamber is required. If left unattended, powder particles may adhere to valves and cause leaks.
The WA1000S and WA1000S/W models can be retrofitted with a dedicated purge line for powder samples.
Alternatively, connect the purge line in the sequence: purge valve → needle valve. By throttling the purge flow rate with the needle valve, you can purge without scattering the powder.

The infrared controller does not turn on.
Check the cooling water pressure or flow rate, as it may be insufficient.
The fuse may be blown. In that case, replace the fuse (15A) and the infrared lamp.

The vacuum level achieved is good, but the vacuum pumping is poor.
The rotary pump's performance may be deteriorating.
Please perform oil changes, etc.
Oil changes are recommended once a year, but oil can deteriorate faster depending on the type and amount of gases being evacuated.

I stopped the device, but should I still bake it?
We recommend baking for at least 12 hours.
During baking, the Q-Mass will be turned OFF (power off). After baking, please wait at least 3 hours after turning on the Q-Mass filament before performing any measurements.
